Award Given to Bruce Koehler

Congratulations to the Commodore

The Ohio Stormwater Association has chosen Mr. Bruce Koehler as this year's recipient of its Award of Individual Excellence. Mr. Bob Lentz of the Butler County Stormwater District presented the award at the opening session of the 2013 Ohio Stormwater Conference on May 9 at the Sharonville Convention Center.

As a Senior Environmental Planner for the Ohio*Kentucky*Indiana Regional Council of Governments and Chair of the Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities, Bruce has dedicated over twenty years to protecting and improving the region's unique water resources. Through his skills in grant writing and knowledge of water quality issues, he has effectively secured resources for project implementation. He has led efforts to implement multiple bankfull wetlands along the Mill Creek, including a five-acre treatment wetland at the former Liz Claiborne facility and a wetland just downstream at the confluence of the Mill Creek main stem and East Fork Mill Creek. The wetlands serve not only to provide water quality treatment, but much needed flood control for downstream communities. In addition to Bruce’s dedication to project implementation, he is a true leader in watershed planning and is currently contributing data as part of the Lower Mill Creek Watershed Action Plan. However, Bruce doesn’t stop at planning and placing storm water projects on the landscape, he seeks to connect individuals, agencies and politicians with our local waterways. As Commodore of the “Mill Creek Yacht Club” he has shown the potential of restoring a degraded urban waterway that only ten years ago many thought of as unrestorable.
