Community leaders gather together to engage in watershed action planning
On October 4, the Mill Creek Watershed Council of Communities, along with the support of Liberty Township, Butler Soil & Water Conservation District, Butler County Water & Sewer Department, Butler County Storm Water District, Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District, Ohio State University Extension, and Ohio Department of Natural Resources, held an Upper Mill Creek Watershed Symposium. Community leaders learned about and engaged in watershed action planning in the Upper Mill Creek, and also designated priority areas for stream restoration and water quality improvement projects.
A watershed action plan (WAP) is a process for inventorying causes and sources for water quality impairment and prioritizing activities to address those impairments. Once completed, WAPs are endorsed by the State of Ohio, validation that opens the door for state and federal to implement priority projects identified in the WAP.
