Success! Third Annual Mill Creek ReCreation Celebration was Attended by 130+ Guests
The third annual Mill Creek ReCreation Celebration was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 on a beautiful autumn day. The Council welcomed around 130 guests to Vorhees Park in Reading for a day of festivities in honor of our local water resource! This three-part event was packed with activities and entertainment for the enjoyment of all ages.
The 3-mile Mill Creek Yacht Club canoe outing was attended by 28 paddlers, most of whom were experiencing this unique urban stream recreation experience for their very first time!
The 15-mile guided bike ride was attended by 25 cyclists. The route led the riders along the West Fork Mill Creek and included a few educational stops along the way.
Walk, Paddle, or Ride: Keep the Mill Creek by your Side!
We host this event each year to celebrate the Mill Creek and to draw attention to the recreational amenities around the watershed. Our paddling group, the Mill Creek Yacht Club, has been exploring the urban stream since the 1990s (over 100 outings and 600 crewmates). The water quality has come a long way since then but still has a ways to go.
