Flood Prevention

The Council provides assistance to communities enrolling in the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System (CRS). In the CRS program, communities engage in floodplain management activities, flood damage reduction, and public outreach about flood insurance.  In exchange, the CRS program offers a 5% to 45% discount on flood insurance premiums. The Village of Elmwood Place is the first community to apply to the CRS program. The council offers watershed communities technical and administrative support during the CRS application process.

In 2007, the Council will enhance its Geographic Information System capabilities to support communities in identifying their flood hazard areas and floodplain management tasks.

The Council will work with the Millcreek Valley Conservancy District, our communities and stakeholders to help address flood hazards and flood damage reduction in the Mill Creek Watershed.
