• Leave grass clippings on the lawn and keep them off paved areas and out of the gutters.
Grass clippings contain most of the nitrogen, phosphorous and other nutrients that our lawns need. You won't need additional fertilizer! Grass clippings also stimulate the existence of decomposition organisms that naturally reduce thatch accumulation.
• Water deep and infrequently, about 1" per week.
Using a rain gauge is the most efficient way of knowing how much water your lawn has received. Over watering results in soil erosion, washes nutrients from roots, and reduces oxygen in the soil. Best time for watering is in the morning.
• Use organic fertilizers and compost only.
Choose fertilizers that are derived from natural sources such as plant and animal remains (ie. leaf mulch, manure, fish emulsion). Organic fertilizers feed the needs of the plants and soil organisms, therefore creating richer healthier soil. They contain low to no salts or harmful inert ingredients that pollute soil and water. Remember, healthy soils promote healthy plants
